How to beat the heat this summer

How to beat the heat this summer

1. Stay hydrated! The best way to keep cool is to keep a cold drink on hand. Iced tea is a classic summertime drink. Lemonade is also very cooling. Avoid extra-sugary soft drinks. The sugar and caffeine will just make you thirstier and fills you with empty calories. Try Crystal Light on-the-go in a water-bottle if you want some extra flavor.

2. Change your air-conditioning filters once a month. I know, it's a pain, but keeping your AC free from dust, animal fur and other blockages will let it run at optimum efficiency. This will save you money on your electric bill, and keep you cool! Have the AC in your car tuned up as well. This service is available at most local service stations.

3. Dress for the summer sun! Wear light clothing, and try to keep the layers to a minimum. If shorts are unacceptable at the office, try capris. That added bit of exposed skin can really make a difference. If you're a suit-wearer, get a suit that is made in "tropical weight." The tailor will know what this means.

4. Still sweating? Try some tiger-balm! This herbal, mentholyptus-based salve is great for sore muscles, but it also provides a cooling sensation to your skin. Apply a small amount to your skin before slathering it on. Sensitive skin may find it a little too strong. Spray-fans are also popular. These battery-operated fans are affixed to a spray bottle that you fill with water. You can mist your face and neck, and feel a great breeze.

Job Interview Advice for College

Winning Job Interview Techniques

common misconception about job interview technique is that it is somehow freestanding, set apart from experience and knowledge. It’s almost as if job applicants have a fantasy image becoming like the con artist played by Leonardo DiCaprio in “Catch Me If You Can” who was able to walk into a job interview and land positions far above his qualifications. Unfortunately, job interview technique does not work like that. Sure there are aspects of delivery and confidence and charisma that come into place, but they are more like the final coat of paint on the automobile than they are the car itself. At the end of the day, the best interviews will be given by those who know the field, the company and the job best, and who have a solid history of success in that job.

As a result, the best way to improve your job interview technique is to learn as much as you can about the job, the target company and specifically what the company is looking for. Once you know what they are looking for, then your goal should be to make sure that you portray yourself as just that. If you are applying for a job that is more or less similar to the current job you have, then you are lucky. You only need to talk about your current experiences and successes. If you are looking to make a career change, or move forward in your career, you will necessarily be talking about experiences and accomplishments that you may not have. In those cases, you need to look into your background and find similar or analogous experiences and results.

More Job Interview Technique Secrets

Your job interview technique will be to convince the interviewer that your results directly mirror the results that he or she wants from the successful job candidate. This is by no means an impossible sale, but it does require a bit more effort than simply describing achieving those exact results. Luckily for you, many of the experiences and results that companies seek can be gained in many different businesses. Many companies look for someone who can deal with the public, who can sell, who can work with detail, who can take leadership, who can research, communicate, write, and so on and so on. As long as you speak about those results, you should be able to convince the interviewer that you have some valuable skills.

The last part of your job interview technique is to make sure that every other aspect of your job interview is spot on perfect. If your experience is a bit off, you can’t afford to lose points anywhere else. Show up on time, wear appropriate clothing, smile a lot, let the interviewer lead the conversation initially, tell your answers in complete sentences and stories with a beginning, middle and end. After the interview, be sure to get a business card from the person you spoke to. Write a thank you note or letter as soon as you return home and hope for the best.

Top 10 Hidden Vacation Spots in the Philippines

Top 10 Hidden Vacation Spots in the Philippines

Romblon

The province of Romblon is made up of twenty beautiful islands which have been likened to the Mediterranean islands. The island of Romblon is the Philippines’ main source of marble, thus earning the moniker “Marble Country”. However, there’s more to Romblon than marble. Mt. Guiting-guiting on Sibuyan Island with a height of 2,058 meters is considered a challenge to mountain climbers, for example. Romblon also has crystal-clear rivers and waterfalls, and beautiful, as yet unspoiled beaches.

Davao Oriental

In January 2000, the earliest sunrise of the new millennium in the Philippines was at the easternmost tip of the country: Pusan Point, Davao Oriental, the “Sunrise Capital of the Philippines”. Davao Oriental has more than just sunrises to offer, however. It boasts, among others, the “bonsai forest” at Mt. Hamiguitan, “Tinagong Dagat” (Hidden Sea), plesiosaur-shaped “Dinosaur Island”, Cape San Agustin where legend has it St. Francis Xavier celebrated his first mass, and beautiful waterfalls and beaches. Davao Oriental is also home to the Mandaya ethnic group.

Antique

AntiqueƱos pride themselves on living in one of the oldest pre-Hispanic settlements in the Philippines. According to legend, Antique, or Hamtik, as it was then called, was the realm of Datu Sumakwel, and was the first large Malay settlement in the country. Although now often passed over in favor of nearby Boracay, Antique has many scenic beauties to offer those seeking adventures with nature. It has lovely waterfalls, lakes, and rivers, including the Tibiao River, ideal for white water kayaking. The province’s highest peak is the legendary Mt. Madia-as, sacred mountain and home of ancient gods, home to rare flora and fauna. Antique is also the home of the famous “Bugasong patadyong”. Lately, the river of Sibalom, Antique has been discovered to be rich with semi-precious stones.

Siquijor

The island of Siquijor, also called “Isla del Fuego” or the “Isle of Fire”, is known to many as a place of magic, mysticism and enchantments. It is frequently associated with phenomena beyond the explanations of science. For some, traveling to this island is not for the faint of heart or weak of spirit, yet for those who do go to this island, it is a beautiful place of natural white sand beaches, coral reefs, caves and forests, simply worth discovering. After admiring the natural sceneries and venturing into the caves, visitors might also attend the healing festivals or watch locals perform feats that boggle the mind.

Catanduanes

The island of Catanduanes in the Bicol Region is in the Pacific Ocean, and is still virtually untouched by tourists, making it a great vacation getaway for those who want to relax for a while from the rat race. Puraran Beach in the town of Baras on this island is the site of the so-called “Majestic” waves prized by surfers. The island also has as-yet-unspoiled white beaches all along its coastline, as well as diving spots for snorkelers and scuba enthusiasts, and cascading waterfalls farther inland.

South Cotabato

Scenic Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, dubbed the “Summer Capital of the South”, is a protected landscape and the ancestral home of the T'boli people. Located in the Daguma Mountains of SOCCSKSARGEN, it boasts three beautiful mountain lakes (Sebu, Seloton and Lahit) and seven waterfalls, as well as the rich culture of the T'bolis, now internationally known for their t'nalak cloth. The scenery and light in this place make it a photographer's paradise, and the mountains offer adventures for intrepid trekkers.

Glan, Sarangani

Beautiful Glan, Sarangani, is the site of Philippine Government Colony No. 9, the first settlement by pioneers from Luzon and the Visayas in 1914 in SOCCSKSARGEN. It is a place where mountain sceneries meet white beaches and clear, sparkling waters.

Baler, Aurora

Baler, Aurora, the birthplace of first Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon, is a place caught between the mountains and the sea: the Pacific Ocean on the east, and the Sierra Madre Mountains on the west. Remote and isolated from the metropolis, its beauties remain unspoiled, waiting to be discovered. Sabang Beach waves are good for surfing, while nearby islets are great for snorkeling. History enthusiasts may be interested in Quezoniana such as the ruins of the Quezon house.[10] Talk on the web is that in keeping with traditional Filipino hospitality, locals are willing to accommodate visitors for lodgings.

Pandaquit, San Antonio, Zambales

Hidden away in the province of Zambales, not far from Subic, is the lovely fishing village of Pundaquit, San Antonio. For those in the know, the beach of Pundaquit is a great haven for beach bums and surfers. [11] This tranquil place was the setting for some of the scenes in the Judy Ann Santos teleserye “Esperanza”, and Punta de Uian Resort served as backdrop of the Villa SantibaƱez resort in the teleserye “Mari Mar”.
